2023 GAME CHANGER SERIES SEMINAR #3

Join us for the third and final instalment of the TRI Game Changer Seminar Series for 2023, where Professor Rachelle Buchbinder AO FAHMS, will speak on the topic of "My Serendipitous Career Path - Combining Clinical Practice and Research".

In this seminar, Professor Buchbinder will share her remarkable clinician researcher journey relevant and useful to us all. She will also tackle the topic of too much medicine, unpacking various strategies aimed at addressing this issue.

Prof Buchbinder combines rheumatology practice with clinical research. An NHMRC Investigator Fellow, she is Professor and Head of the Musculoskeletal Health and Wiser HealthCare Units in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. She is known internationally as a vocal proponent of evidence-based medicine, and for her landmark studies, particularly those examining treatments accepted into practice before their proper evaluation.

She has recently won the 2023 Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences Outstanding Female Researcher Medal, the video is available here.

Her book 'Hippocrasy: how Doctors are betraying their oath', written with Professor Ian Harris, an orthopedic surgeon based in Sydney, was published in 2021. The book, supported by a Rockefeller Foundation writing fellowship at the Bellagio Center in Italy, was written for both the general public and clinicians.
