Mosaic – Animal Ordering - 1 Week to Go!

The UQ Biological Resources animal ordering system is changing!

As of COB Friday 3rd September 2021 the Biological Resources Animal Order Request Form will no longer be available via the UQBR Webpage.

All Animal Orders previously placed through this form will now be placed directly into the Mosaic Database.

All personnel requesting to purchase animals will require a Mosaic login to order animals.

Please ensure that you have completed Mosaic Researcher Access Level 1 and Level 1.2 (links provided in the PDF)

As soon as you have completed the Mosaic Researcher Access Level 1.2 you may start placing orders if this is part of your role!

Please be sure to familiarise yourself with this new ordering and transfer process before the deadline (COB 03/09/2021).

Please do not hesitate to contact the Animal Facility/Orders Manager ([email protected]) if you are having any difficulties completing these orders and transfer requests during this transition.

Mosaic newsletter – please see the Aug newsletter attached with some more information on training and usage reports.

Quarterly Mouse Necropsy Workshop for Researchers – Dr. Heidi Niland-Rowe

This workshop is primarily aimed at researchers to increase awareness and gain confidence in the ability to perform gross necropsies should a suitably trained UQBR staff member or UQBR veterinarian are unable to attend.

The workshop will focus on the anatomy and identification of major organs with an emphasis on normal appearance. Learn how to complete a basic necropsy in the preferred manner to assist in meeting our regulatory obligations as outlined in The Code. The workshop will cover the process when seeking the assistance of the UQBR veterinarians, when a post-mortem is required, how to use the UQBR Post-mortem checklist, sending the documents and photos to the UQBR veterinary services for assessment and reporting the unexpected event to the ethics committee.

Benefits:

  • Overview process when and how to seek UQBR veterinary assistance regarding animal health alerts and unexpected deaths
  • Confidence to initiate a systematic approach to the post mortem investigation process on experimental animals with the support of the UQBR Veterinarians reducing the negative impacts on cadavers by delaying necropsies.
  • Perform a necropsy in sync with collecting tissues required for experimental outcomes. e.g. necropsy followed by tumour collection without relying on the availability of suitably trained UQBR staff.
  • Prompt and accurate adverse event reporting. Note: depending on the availability of UQs Veterinary Officer Dr Tim Biffin, may be in attendance to assist in the workshop and discuss the process of UAE and what is expected by the committee.

The next workshop will be held on September 29th in the Sir William MacGregor Building #64, St Lucia Campus (exact teaching room to be confirmed closer to the date). Seats are limited.

Please contact UQBR Training & Compliance if you require additional information.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact us with any queries or concerns.
