NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our OneTRI community will come together to present a special NAIDOC Week event on Wednesday, 5 July

Traditional Knowledges Informing Contemporary Science: A Collaborative Story honours the theme for the 2023 NAIDOC Week which is ‘For Our Elders’. In recognition of this, our event will highlight the ground-breaking work of Trioda Wilingi - a University of Queensland/UniQuest spin out company developing novel medical gels from cellulose nanofibres extracted from native spinifex grass. The company builds on the knowledge of the Indjalandji-Dhidhanu people, the Traditional Owners of the upper Georgina River region, who have long acknowledged the strength and utility of spinifex grass. Trioda Wilingi recently received an investment of $2.6 million from Uniseed and Bulugudu to continue this work.

We'll hear from Associate Professor Colin Saltmere AM and Tim Case, both from Trioda Wilingi, on this fascinating and thought-provoking topic that you don't want to miss.

There will also be a Welcome to Country by Nunukul Yuggera. Please join us in the Atrium following the seminar for morning tea provided by Figjam & Co Catering (Supply Nation certified) and enjoy some Australian native flavoured treats.
