JUDITH CLEMENTS QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY HONOURS

While Australians were celebrating the Queen's Birthday long weekend with a public holiday, the team at QUT's Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) are beginning a celebration of a different kind. IHBI Cancer Program Leader and Scientific Director of the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre, Distinguished Professor Judith Clements was yesterday awarded the Companion of the order of Australia (AC).

The Professor was acknowledged for her work with prostate cancer, leading a team which created and manages a storage facility for prostate cancer cells, an essential part of research into this deadly disease.

Officially, the Governor General is pleased to announce the following appointments and awards:

Distinguished Professor Judith Ann CLEMENTS - For eminent service to the biological sciences and to education, through seminal contributions to improving the understanding of cancers, particularly prostate cancer, as
an advocate for the development of biomedical research facilities, and to the training of scientists.

"IT'S QUITE HUMBLING BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY MORE PEOPLE WHO DO BETTER THINGS FOR SOCIETY THAN WHAT I DO," SHE SAID.

"BUT IT'S TERRIFIC TO THINK THAT SOME OF MY PEERS THOUGHT THAT I WAS WORTHY OF IT."
