Simple saliva test aims to detect HPV throat cancer
Professor Chamindie Punyadeera
Professor Chamindie Punyadeera from QUT’s Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) is developing a simple saliva test to detect Human papilloma virus (HPV) in throat cancers. Professor Punyadeera said that HPV throat cancer is harder to identify than those caused by smoking. The test aims to help identify people who are at risk in an early stage of HPV caused throat cancer and prevent the disease from progressing.
The non-invasive saliva sample will be sent to a lab to determine if further testing is needed.
