2024 Game Changer Series - Seminar #1

Join us for the first instalment of the TRI Game Changer Seminar Series for 2024.

Professor Steve Wesselingh FRACP FAHMS, Chief Executive Officer at the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), will speak about the ‘Future direction of the NHMRC’.

The NHMRC is the nation’s leading expert body in health and medical research. With climate change being one of the most pressing threats to human health and wellbeing globally, Professor Wesselingh's key areas of focus for the NHMRC include prioritising research into climate-related health risks to help provide a comprehensive understanding of emerging threats and consequently, a national resilience to environmental change. A major health priority for NHMRC also includes strengthening resilience to emerging health threats and emergencies, including pandemics, environmental change and antimicrobial resistance.

Professor Wesselingh is an infectious diseases physician and researcher. He undertook his undergraduate and doctoral training at Flinders University and his post-doctoral training at Johns Hopkins in the United States. Until July 2023, Professor Wesselingh was the inaugural Executive Director of the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). He was also a member of NHMRC Council, Chair of Research Committee, and the President of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS).

All OneTRI community members are encouraged to take part in what is sure to be a thought-provoking conversation.
