Federal funding for TRI-based researchers
Researchers based at TRI will advance studies in cancer, antimicrobial resistance,
abnormal bone formation and eczema with support from the National Health and
Medical Research Council (NHMRC).
The researchers have led successful applications in the NHMRC Ideas Grants and Development Grant schemes.
The Development Grant scheme aims to increase translation of health and medical research into commercial outcomes, resulting in improved health and medical knowledge.
Among TRI-based researchers to benefit from the support are:
- Professor John Hooper (pictured top right) from Mater Research / The University of Queensland, for work in optimising an antibody for clinical trials in cancer patients
- Associate Professor Mark Smythe (top centre) from UQ and TRI-based Infensa Bioscience, for work on an enhanced therapy for eczema.
The Ideas Grant scheme supports innovative projects for teams of up to 10 researchers, addressing a specific question in an important area of health and medical research, from discovery to implementation.
TRI-based recipients include:
- Dr Lisa Philp (top left) from QUT for work on treatment-resistant prostate cancer
- Professor Antje Blumenthal (bottom right) from The Frazer Institute, UQ for work on antimicrobial resistance
- Professor Jean-Pierre Levesque (bottom centre) from Mater Research / UQ for studies into debilitating bone growths (called neurogenic heterotopic ossification)
- Dr Jacqui McGovern from QUT for developing alternative treatment options for bone tumours.
