Title: Targeting host lipid metabolism: A novel adjunctive therapy option to treat tuberculosis
Dr. Reiling’s research focusses on (i) resistance and persistence of intracellular pathogens (Lipid metabolism), (ii) pathogen variability and infection biology of mycobacteria in vitro und in vivo, (iii) the molecular definition of the habitat of pathogenic mycobacteria, (iv) the functional role of Wnt/Fzd signaling in inflammation and infection and (v) the identification of novel lead compounds with antimycobacterial activity. Important contributions include work on pattern recognition receptors, in particular the role of TLR2 and TLR4-mediated pathogen recognition in resistance to airborne infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
