Visiting Speaker: Professor Gabriele Grassi
Prof. Grassi is a visiting Scholar from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Trieste, Italy.
His research focuses on the development of nucleic acid based drug (NABDs) such as ribozymes, miRNA, siRNA and aptamer with therapeutic properties mainly against tumour diseases; the research interest is focussed also on the identification of suitable delivery systems for NABDs.
Prof Grassi and his team are dissecting the contribution of the target gene products to oncogenesis. With a combination of molecular, cellular, animal and bioinformatics approaches, the group studies the effectiveness of the therapeutic drugs as well as the molecular mechanisms responsible for their action. In addition, the group works on the identification of the molecular mechanisms of different FDA approved drugs.
