CORES 2021 Professional Development Conference Wrap Up 

Hosted by TRI, the inaugural CORES 2021 Professional Development Conference (CORES 2021), conference provided a one day opportunity for scientific core disciplines to network, share insights, discuss core industry challenges and opportunities with keynote speakers and core specialists. Attracting attendees from across Australia, both in person and online, the inaugural conference was a huge success. We hope you enjoyed the presentations, trade displays and networking as much as we did, and left the conference energised and inspired for the future.

We strongly believe that core staff bridge the gap between academic and professional streams and work is needed to develop frameworks to support core staff and gain buy-in from organisations. Some of the key take home messages for attendees was that while tools and technology are necessary, they are nothing without people. The growth and retention of our talents in core will only be possible if we: 

•    promote and upsell our people within and outside of our organisations.
•    engage in intentional development and show our team that we value them by prioritising their growth.
•    remember that the people around us influence our careers and outcomes but we also influence others
•    nurture relationships and manage expectations
