federal mp'S focus on medical outcomes
Terri Butler MP, Federal Member for Griffith and Andrew Giles MP, Federal Member for Scullin visited the TRI this morning to seek input from current CEO Professor Carolyn Mountford and TRI founder Professor Ian Frazer, into how Government can support the medical science sector.
Recommendations in the McKeon Strategic Review focused on a stronger relationship between science and medicine, matching the goals of the TRI to drive research towards positive medical outcomes.
Released in 2013, the report from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing was supported by a panel of Australia's leading science and health professionals including Ms Elizabeth Alexander AM, Professor Henry Brodaty AO. Mr Bill Ferris AC, Professor Melissa Little and TRI founder Professor Ian Frazer AC.
Today the discussion focused on how these recommendations from the McKeon Strategic Review can be achieved while seeking feedback on the role of local and federal Government in making these goals a reality. The members have been visiting other medical research institutes around Australia seeking feedback on the report.
