NHMRC research fellowships AWARDED to tri-based researchers
Last Friday, 29 August 2014, the Minister for Health, the Hon Peter Dutton MP, announced funding of the prestigious NHMRC Research Fellowships to commence in 2015.
Professor Ranjeny Thomas was successfully awarded one of these fellowships at Principal Research Fellow level (PRF).
Professor Peter Visscher was also awarded an NHMRC Research Fellowship at Senior Principal Research Fellow (SPRF) level.
Only 6 researchers at The University of Queensland and 74 researchers nationally received a prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council Research Fellowship.
The Fellowships support researchers with incredibly strong career track records, many with a proven ability to translate research into commercial, health practice or policy outcomes.
To be successful, the Fellows had to be in the top 10% of their fields and submit highly innovative research proposals with the potential to have a transformative impact on a disease, condition or the health system.
“NHMRC Research Fellows push the boundaries of research,” NHMRC CEO Professor Warwick Anderson said.
“They have a clear vision for their research, and in progressing their vision, advance their field and enhance Australia’s research capacity in that area. They are among Australia’s brightest hopes for delivering breakthroughs in new treatments and practices.”
