We spotted this little piece about Mareeba State High School student Caitlin Goodhew in the Tablelands Advertiser this week. 

A MAREEBA student proved herself to be a bright spark at a research immersion program during the school holidays.

Mareeba State High School year 12 student Caitlin Goodhew spent a week at the Translational Research Institute in Brisbane cloning genes used in breast cancer. “These genes are used to repair broken DNA,” she said.

“There’s a group of scientists looking at the BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 genes. “Some people call them the Angelina Jolie genes. “There’s a whole group of other genes thought to do a similar thing and they are testing the way these genes interact.”
