TRI's new Clinical Research Facility is open for trials!

The former labs of the R wing have been completely revamped to house the new Clinical Research Facility (CRF) of the Translational Research Institute. Overseen by the TRI Clinical Research Facilities Committee, chaired by Dr David Theile, the CRF is a dedicated facility for the conduct of research in humans.

“Commencing trials in the CRF is the culmination of a significant collaborative effort from the PAH, Metro South Health, TRI and its partners including the University of Queensland, the Queensland University of Technology and UQ’s Mater Medical Research Institute,” said Dr David Theile. “Operated by the Princess Alexandra Hospital, the CRF provides a controlled and safe environment to conduct patient research with ready access to hospital facilities and emergency response teams.”

The CRF has been designed to provide the special facilities and equipment needed by a variety of clinical researchers for investigating the causes of disease and the effectiveness of new medicines and medical equipment.

“Other benefits of the facility include its proximity to the TRI where much of the scientific research is translating the benefits of years of lab research to the bedside,” said Dr Theile.

“The co-location of the Patheon Biologics facility on the PAH campus is another key to the improved capacity of research trials on site with this added element of manufacturing novel biologics.

“Advances in clinical technology at the PA Hospital campus are a tremendous support to the research potential of trials here,” he said.

Dr Theile is calling for interested researchers from PAH, as well as those clinicians from Mater and Greenslopes who are collaborating with a PAH or TRI researchers to make the CRF the home of their next clinical trial.

Feasibility regarding the use of the CRF should be discussed with CFR Manager, Laurie Kear, prior to application. Advice may also be sought regarding use prior to submission of ethics application.
