BRF INDUCTION REQUIREMENTS 

To obtain access to the BRF you must first complete the induction process:

  1. Complete a TRI building/safety induction.
  2.  Animal ethics application or modification: apply for animal ethics approval to work with the relevant projects - either by submitting a modification to add personnel to existing protocols or by submitting a new application. Note that all animal work at TRI is overseen by the Health Sciences AEC (HS) - click here for more information. Evidence of approval will be required before your induction is complete.
  3. Complete formal animal ethics training, provided by UQ or equivalent - click here for more information. Make sure you take a screenshot/copy of your certificate as you will need to provide this as evidence before your induction is complete.
  4. Complete additional UQBR LMS courses: – Biological Resources - University of Queensland (uq.edu.au)  If you require additional help setting up an associate account with UQ username and password, please contact [email protected]
        • UQBR - Identify Animal Health - Rats and Mice course.
        • UQBR Pre-Induction – Including site induction request within the course.
        • TRI Facility Induction
        • UQBR - Handling and Restraint in Mice 
        • UQBR - Handling and Restraint in Rats (if required) 
        • UQBR - Euthanasia Fundamentals in Rodents (Pre-requisite)
  1. An onsite in-person Induction will be organised at a convenient time once the request for site Induction has been submitted. UQ Biological Resources - Request for Site Induction                                                      
  2. For access to other specialised areas of the facility (e.g. the containment suite), please email [email protected] to discuss requirements and further training.

Once the above steps have been completed successfully, you will be granted basic access to the experimental animal holding rooms and procedure rooms in the BRF.
