TRI helps to train a specialist workforce in biomedical manufacturing 

Researchers, clinicians and students across Southeast Queensland have recently participated in real-world training in manufacturing biomedical treatments and products in partnership with the Centre for Biopharmaceutical Excellence (CBE). 

Part of MTPConnect’s $32 million Researcher Exchange and Development within Industry (REDI) initiative, the CBE GMP Uplift Programs is providing participants with real-world training in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles and techniques to boost skills gaps across the sector.

“We’re pleased to be part of the REDI program which is equipping our participants with hands-on manufacturing skills across the medtech, biotech and pharmaceutical sectors,” TRI’s Director of Building Operations Michelle Richards said.

The first component of the training - the Essential GMP Program - is designed for entry level employees who want to upskill in core GMP principles.

The participants are joining workshops for case work, networking and practicing GMP basics in TRI’s state-of-the-art GMP cleanrooms.

Participants will also gain relevant, practical skills in International GMP Regulations, Production and Contamination Control, Quality Assurance, Biologics, Regenerative Medicines and Sterile Products and Pharmaceuticals.

“REDI Case Study and Hands-On Workshops give students the opportunity to practically apply theoretical GMP principles to relevant case studies,” REDI CBE Course Coordinator Steve Williams said.

“It was great to see the first cohorts of Essentials Program participants using the Workshops to network with each other and experientially perform GMP concepts at TRI.”
