TRI DRIVE GRANT APPLICATION

APPLICATIONS NOW CLOSED: Some concerns have been raised about the Intellectual Property (IP) agreement in relation to the DRIVE GRANT.  Therefore the TRI Innovation and Translation Committee (IATC) are reassessing the grant application process. More information will be provided when this process is complete. Please direct your questions to Nagaraj Gopisetty.

Driving commercial translation

The TRI Drive Grant will be awarded to a single applicant team with an important clinical question; a clear translational outcome identified; and a commercial partner committed to taking the solution to market. The application will need to set out clear milestones for delivery by which the success of the proposal may be judged. The evaluations committee will be chosen according to the expertise needed for the applications.

Conditions and Eligibility

The TRI Drive Grant is for a possible total of $450,000 in funding.  Applicants will need a Letter of Support from each of the TRI stakeholder institutions participating in their project - The University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, Mater Medical Research Institute and Metro Health South – confirming their agreement to pay $50,000.  TRI will provide a further $250,000 to the winning application.

The funds will be collectively paid in instalments aligned to the completion of a maximum of four milestones, subject to all the following conditions being met:

  1. The proposal involves chief investigators from at least three of the TRI partner institutes, one of these from a clinical discipline who is an active clinician.
  2. The proposal must include a commercial partner.
  3. The proposal must include proof-of-value and validation studies for commercial translation.
  4. TRI must be acknowledged on all publications and slide presentations.
  5. Funds will not be allocated if there is no suitable application.

Successful applicants will need to complete a report at each milestone and a final report within 24-36 months of the commencement of funding.

Assessment and allocation of funding

Eligibility and ranking of applications will be determined by an independent evaluations committee chaired by the TRI CEO.  We will advise when the announcement of funding will be made ASAP.

Information about the submission process will be available soon.
