Climb For Cancer 2016 EVent Wrap Up
We made it to the top! The view from the roof top on the 37th floor was spectacular and 60 TRI based researchers were lucky enough to enjoy some time up here after making the trek up 810 stairs.
In April, we were asked if we could help promote the Mater Foundation Climb For Cancer event and in return posed the question of whether there was space to enter a TRI team in the usually full event. Working closely with Mater Foundation, we put the call out to our researchers to join us in a collaborative fundraising campaign for ovarian and prostate cancer research at Mater.
The response was incredible, with a final total of 64 researchers registering to take on the 810 stairs of Waterfront Place. After some tricky tech updates from the Climb For Cancer team, needed to cater for the unprecedented large group, our fundraising campaign was underway in the first week of May with an info session and photoshoot.
First up, we got some of the team together for a group shot in lab coats and used this to launch our campaign throughout the building and via our social media channels Facebook, Linked In and Twitter.
The teams were incredible, coming up with science puns like Tumornators and MelanoMads and smashing the fundraising goal of $5000 just 2 weeks in. Then there were photoshoots, bake sales, raffles, and change boxes around the building to keep the funds rolling in. As of the 3rd June, our total is over $11k with donations open until the 15th June 2016.
On The Day
The teams arrived at our meeting point on Eagle Street to a beautiful blue sky, enjoying the morning sun while awaiting our start time of 9am. Next we took some group photos of the whole team with Waterfront Place in the background before heading to registration.
