Saliva swab could revolutionise medical testing for millions

Queensland is hosting an Australasia symposium on saliva swab which could one day predict allergies and even Alzheimer's.

TRI based QUT researcher, A/Prof Chamindie Punyadeera, organised the international saliva symposium hosted at the convention centre in Brisbane last week with Brisbane's top saliva researchers. 

Saliva testing is a developing field which aims to replace sometimes painful and expensive blood tests for some of our most common diseases. Research so far has shown potential for glucose monitoring in diabetes and testing for heart disease to replace existing blood testing processes which can involve daily needles for some patients.
