World Science Festival 2017 - Wrap Up

From the 22nd to the 26th March 2017 Brisbane turned red for the 2nd annual World Science Festival. Events were held throughout Qld with the main activities centred around the Qld Museum and Southbank. This year, TRI participated in Apprenticeship programs similar to last year, presentations at QPAC and the very popular Street Science held in the cultural forecourt of Southbank on Saturday and Sunday. 

Street Science

Our street science stall featured interactive displays of 3 translational projects which are based at TRI - Professor Dietmar Hutmacher's 3D printed breast tissue scaffolding, A/Professor Janet Davies pollen monitoring program and A/Professor Tarl Prow's skin cancer monitoring and detection projects. 

Apprentice Programs

On Tuesday 21st and Thursday 23rd March Dr Mike Doran and Professor Mike Gabrielli hosted apprenticeship programs at the SPARQ-ed lab for students in grades 10-12. The students learn the basics of working in a real PC2 lab, how to analyze cells and collect data in either the biofabricators session which focused on 3D printing or the cancer crusader program which looked at Melanoma cells. 

 

Pioneers In Science

High school students submitted their questions to Professor Ian Frazer for the Pioneers of Science event held at the Cremorne Theatre in QPAC on Friday morning. Watch an archive video of the live event here.
