INSPIRED TO TURN IDEAS INTO REALITY

The second session of the TRI Science Business Inspiration series was held yesterday with guest speakers Brian Ruddle and Cameron Turner inspiring the audience to turn their science business ideas into reality.

Brian Ruddle, Managing Director of Impact Innovation spoke of the importance of your data and what this can show to a potential commercialisation partner, along with explaining some of the key things that investors are looking for.

Brian said 'just ask, and you will be amazed at what you get back'.

Cameron Turner, CEO of Progel encouraged researchers to ‘get outside the building’ and find out what real problems are out there that need solving.

Cameron and his microencapsulation technology is now being used in a drink called PERKii a low-calorie non-dairy probiotic drink. Knowing their market was key to getting their product onto shelves and selling.

Cameron said 'Finding people’s pain and trying to address and solve it for them is key'.

Both our speakers agreed that it is not always about patents, having a unique business model, in many cases, can prove to be the success.

The event is organised by a committee of researchers eager to build their business knowledge and connections, representing our partners Mater Medical Research, The University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology and the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
